We know what we like (and we like what we know) so it was back to our old favourite campsite Gwern Gof Uchaf, close under Tryfan, where it always rains but we still have a good time.
And so it was; Anne and Ken met Pete, Meg, and Eleanor on Saturday morning with a wet and windy forecast and a hearty dose of stoicism. We pitched tents and set off for a walk up Moel Siabod as the rain cleared. The East Ridge is a scenic scramble, the snow was crisp on the summit, and the day was a pleasure! It even stayed dry till late while we ate our tea outside. The night was wild and wet, and we spent Sunday morning socially in the Owens’ tent, but once again the day cleared towards noon and we scampered around some pretty woodlands and waterfalls, sheltered from the wind. Monday followed the same pattern: a fierce night and an unpromising start. But by late morning the rain had passed. Team Owens went for a short walk round Llyn Idwal before heading home, but Anne and Ken climbed the ridge onto Y Garn for great views, before descending the Devil’s Kitchen, black and spectacular after all the rain. We arrived back at the car just as it started again. Would you believe it! Three nice walks, and we didn’t get wet on any of them! Stoical optimists get their just rewards. |
