Sawmill Cottage, April 2016

Anne and Ken, Dave and Margot, spent a very pleasant weekend with Howard at Sawmill Cottage near Jedburgh. On Saturday we dropped Margot in Peebles and joined Howard for a walk, over Windlestraw Law, Bareback Knowes and Whitehope Law – what great names! Howard told us we’d done a Graham, two Donalds, and a Donald Top, which sounded quite impressive… but it was only because one of the Donalds was also a Graham. We didn’t care as long as we’d done enough to justify tea and cake afterwards. We reunited with Margot, who had performed the sterling task of selecting the best teashop for us, and then returned to Howard’s for home-made soup, local salmon, and apple pie.

Sunday Dave and Margot took their campervan to the Farne Islands for some bird-watching, Ken and Anne went mountain-biking, and Howard ticked another Donald before driving off for a business-trip.

A lovely weekend, and we still haven’t done the Seven Stanes, the Cheviots, the Dawyck Arboretum, or any of the other attractions. We even forgot to go out badger-spotting at dusk. Sorry Howard – we’re all coming back next year!
